Start with the recurring role
Checked November 6, 2026, the Trail Steward role calls for at least monthly visits, on the volunteer’s own schedule between dawn and dusk, reporting findings and logging hours. Work includes brush clipping, small-to-medium debris removal and litter collection. Equipment and training are provided; CORI/SORI clearance is required.
Resolve requirements before applying
The description permits adults or minors accompanied by a parent or guardian; Details says 18 and older. Clarify this conflict before a minor applies. The role is marked not wheelchair accessible.
The sanctuary’s separate visitor-access page lists facilities and equipment including restrooms, a Freedom Chair and seat canes. Those visitor provisions do not establish access to this work role. Discuss the actual tasks and route with staff; ask about another role if this one does not fit.
Send an expression of interest
Choose Respond, explain your interest and fit in Response Notes, then Submit Opportunity Response. A coordinator follows up; this expresses interest, not a confirmed placement.
Prepare a short note about the time you could regularly give and the outdoor work you would like to discuss. Keep questions about supervision, weather decisions and the first visit together so the reply can resolve them before you arrange travel.
Arrange the first visit with the sanctuary
Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary is at 100 Felix Neck Drive, Edgartown, telephone 508-627-4850. Its public trails are open from dawn to dusk. Agree the meeting point and any orientation arrangements with staff before treating a visitor trip as a volunteer assignment.
Save the coordinator’s response and the agreed next step. Reopen the role page before applying if you return to this guide later.
