Plan Around Monday, November 9
For an Edgartown-bound foot passenger, the Steamship Authority’s winter schedule offers a 3:45 p.m. departure from Woods Hole, arriving at Vineyard Haven at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026. Its published period is October 23, 2026–January 5, 2027. All times below are local; schedules were checked November 4.
Before choosing this connection, arrange the walk or pickup from Church Street to your final address.
Choose the 5:10 p.m. Route 1
VTA’s October 4, 2026–April 15, 2027 printed timetable gives these Route 1 choices for November 9:
Planned connection: depart Vineyard Haven 5:10 p.m.; arrive Church Street, Edgartown, 5:30 p.m.
Later option: depart 5:40 p.m.; arrive 6:03 p.m.
Final direct Route 1 listed in the printed timetable: depart 10:40 p.m.; arrive 11 p.m.
The planned bus leaves 40 minutes after the scheduled ferry arrival. VTA asks riders to be at the stop five minutes before departure, leaving a planned 35 minutes to disembark and reach it. That is a planning allowance, not a measured walking time or protected connection. A ferry delay can consume it.
Know Which Date Rules Apply
The timetable’s later-winter Sunday reductions do not apply to this Monday. Thanksgiving and Christmas have no VTA service. The published fare-free period runs through April 15, 2027. Rebuild the connection for another date.
The last ferry reaches Vineyard Haven at 10:30 p.m., leaving ten minutes before the printed Route 1 departure. Arrange an alternative for that pairing.
The printed timetable and the downloadable transit data differ on later trips. Confirm late-evening travel directly with VTA; this example uses the printed timetable.
Arrange Access Before Crossing
VTA describes its vehicles as accessible and lists 508-693-9440 for trip assistance. Discuss your mobility device and the terminal-to-stop connection in advance.
The Steamship Authority asks passengers needing elevator access to reach the ferry terminal 30 minutes before departure and notify a terminal agent. Its accessibility page distinguishes vessel layouts, so confirm the assigned sailing and assistance you need with the operator. For the 3:45 p.m. sailing, 30 minutes before departure is 3:15 p.m.; allow additional time to reach the terminal itself.
If the Ferry Is Late
Check current bus information before deciding whether to wait or use your arranged pickup. VTA does not guarantee connections.
Before taking a late sailing, arrange a pickup with your accommodation or a taxi operator, confirm where you will meet and ask what happens if the ferry is delayed. Keep the contact details available offline. A listed taxi service is not a reserved vehicle, and this guide does not establish same-night room or ride availability.
