A more local view of the water
Woods Hole Sea Grant has added Tide Together to its 2026–27 research portfolio. Announced October 28, the project plans 30 low-cost water-level sensors across Cape Cod, with two in each of its 15 towns.
WHOI researchers Christopher Piecuch and Levi Gorrell will lead the work, supported by NOAA’s Disaster Preparedness Program. The network is intended to improve local understanding of high-tide flooding and differences in coastal water levels.
Measurements on existing structures
The sensors would attach to infrastructure such as pilings, bridges or boardwalks and measure water levels using sound waves. The project also plans a public website for real-time data. The announcement describes a planned network; it does not report that all 30 sensors are operating.
