Two closure periods in the town’s plan
Mashpee scheduled Attaquin Park to close on Monday, October 26, 2026, for stormwater improvements. Its October 6 notice sets a work period of up to six weeks, weather permitting, with a reopening date to be announced.
The property is due to close again in late spring 2027, before Memorial Day, for final paving. Advance notice will follow once that work is scheduled.
Why runoff is receiving attention around the pond
Stormwater work has also taken place at the nearby Mashpee-Wakeby State Boat Ramp. Project partner the Association to Preserve Cape Cod reports that its improvements were completed in June 2026. The ramp project added five planted treatment areas and two underground infiltration systems, with grading changes to direct runoff into them.
APCC identifies the ramp’s large paved surface as a source of runoff reaching the pond and notes its proximity to Attaquin Park’s public beach. Its completed-project description concerns the boat ramp; the current town closure notice concerns Attaquin Park. The notice does not provide an equivalent engineering breakdown for the park.
Where to get the reopening announcement
The closure notice lists Mashpee’s Department of Public Works for project questions: 508-539-1420 or dpw@mashpeema.gov. Check for an explicit reopening announcement before planning a park visit; six weeks is an estimate, not a confirmed opening date.
