Choose the village-side start

For a short November visit, use the town’s Boardwalk/Mill Creek entrance at 21 Boardwalk Road. Sandwich also lists a Town Neck entrance reached from Town Neck Road onto Wood Avenue. The town’s beach information and maps were checked November 6, 2026.

Use a marked parking space and read the signs before walking away. Sandwich’s beach rules require parking in designated areas, with stickers or day passes during the posted periods. The current map marks both approaches as fee-or-sticker parking.

Cross the marsh, then turn before the dunes

From the Boardwalk Road parking area, take the boardwalk across Mill Creek and the marsh. On the town’s map, the route meets the branch from the Wood Avenue parking area before continuing toward the dune and beach access. Use that junction as the planned turnaround and retrace the boardwalk to Boardwalk Road.

Continuing onto the beach adds a different surface and a longer return. Stay on the designated route: town rules restrict crossing dunes and salt marsh to authorized marked crossings and beach access points. If the deck or approach is obstructed, turn back rather than finding a route through the marsh.

Plan the return while there is daylight

Choose a return-to-car time before setting out and allow for the slowest walker and time spent stopping. Turn earlier if the remaining daylight will not cover the return. Bring the map so the Wood Avenue branch does not become an unintended exit to a different parking area.

The beach page says town beach restrooms are no longer available after Labor Day. It also describes beach mats as ordinarily seasonal, between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A November plan should therefore resolve toilet needs before arrival and avoid relying on a summer mat to reach the sand. The rebuilt boardwalk and the beach approach are separate access questions.

Recheck the route before travelling

Sandwich’s Alert Center showed no active alerts when checked on November 6. Reopen it before the trip and obey any closure signs at the entrance. The town’s May 2024 reopening notice documents the boardwalk’s return to use; it does not establish today’s footing or access beyond the deck.

For an essential mobility or surface requirement, ask Sandwich Recreation at 508-888-4361 about the current Boardwalk Road approach and the intended turnaround. The published maps do not give a measured grade or a complete accessibility assessment for this outing.
