Two streets enter a short paving window

Trips to downtown Chatham will need a little extra planning from Monday, November 2. The town’s October 30 Mainsheet schedules milling and paving on Library Lane and Chatham Bars Avenue, with completion expected Wednesday, November 4. Both streets are listed for closures, while access for local traffic is to be maintained.

For someone simply crossing downtown, that means a familiar through route may not be available. For someone whose destination is on either street, the notice preserves local access. Follow the directions posted at the work zone; the announcement does not provide a signed detour route.

The library entrance is a separate detail

The town specifically says pedestrian access to Eldredge Public Library’s side entrance on Library Lane will remain available. Patrons can plan to walk the final approach, while checking nearby parking and driving restrictions separately.

The library lists its address as 564 Main Street. Its regular hours are 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, and 11 a.m.–7 p.m. on Tuesday. Those are the library’s posted hours, rather than a special construction schedule.

Check the trip before leaving

For a book pickup, program or visit with access needs, call the library at 508-945-5170 to check the most practical entrance that day. The town also links its Perimeter Map from the Mainsheet for local disruptions.

November 4 is the announced completion target. This article was prepared before the work window and does not establish that paving has begun or that the streets have reopened. Use the town’s latest notice and directions on site when making the trip.
